Dream Nothing Book

Author: Harmony Media
Average review score:

Seize Your Day
We live long enough that we sometimes forgot about out dreams. The Dream Nothing Book allows you the freedom to write your own dreams --- dreams that can come true and dreams that can be forgotten. I started using this book in 1996 and it has become an essential part of me. The light blue pages of clouds had been filled with my own dreams. Some of the dreams have come true while some have vanished along with many other things in life, I know that I have dreamed. Start the new century with dreams and I recommend the Dream Nothing Book!

Economic Harmonies
Published in Paperback by Foundation for Economic Education (March, 1997)
Authors: Frederic Bastiat, George B. De Huszar, George B. De Huzar, and George B. De Huszar
Average review score:

A great book for those with an interest in classical econ.
The most challenging of Bastiat's books, _The Economic Harmonies_ should not be entered into lightly. Less polemical than most of his better known works, it is an in-depth exploration of classical economics, and as such, I would generally recommend it only to those who are already fans of Bastiat or who have a solid grounding in economics. Intended to be his magnum opus, Bastiat died before its completion; as a result, the book is really only two-thirds complete. This is the reason for my having rated it just an "8". The editor was kind enough to include Bastiat's notes, where available, for the unfinished chapters, however. With those caveats, I wholeheartedly recommend this book, it is both readable and highly informative.

Epitome of Copernican Astronomy & Harmonies of the World (Great Minds Series)
Published in Paperback by Prometheus Books (November, 1995)
Authors: Johannes Kepler and Charles Glenn Wallis
Average review score:

A small sample..
This is a republication of an old translation.

If you haven't read Kepler's own words, then this book will be both more and less than you expected. It is both a mathematical and phylsophically speculative text, which in some sections can get quite technical.(Warning: the title is a bit deceiving. Only part of the Epitome is included.)

I would only give 3 stars to this book, except that english translations of Kepler's works are very few, and this book is the most financially accessible of those currently on the market. I therefore recommend it as a good first exposure.

There's no substitute to reading the original words of great thinkers, especially in gaining insight into their way of approaching the world.

Feng Shui: How to Create Harmony and Balance in Your Living and Working Environment
Published in Hardcover by Storey Books (May, 1999)
Authors: Belinda Henwood, Choy Howard, and Howard Choy
Average review score:

catching the flow
Qi is the life force and universal energy, and its flow is what feng shui is all about; attracting the positive, keeping the negative at bay, and balancing the yin and yang (female and male principles). It applies to our inner life, our home, and our surrounding habitat, helping to bring harmony to every aspect of our lives.
This unpretentious little book is a good primer, giving the fundamentals in an easy to read format, with simple descriptions and diagrams. An excellent place to start is in the clearing of clutter, which is a big obstruction to the desired flow, and to make sure that the lighting is adequate and in the place where it will give the most benefit.

It covers every area of your living space, including the nursery, which many feng shui books bypass, and your garden as well as your business; specific things like stairs and windows are discussed, and the importance of a pleasant view. It has a chapter on "Cures", which include mirrors, the use of color, and plants.
For some some basic information, and the instructions to implement it, this book is a fine overview of the subject to those not familiar with this ancient Chinese art of placement. As it says in its final chapter, "Feng shui opens up a whole new world-a new way of looking and listening to your environment".

Garden of the Soul: Lessons on Living in Peace, Happiness and Harmony
Published in Paperback by Health Communications (December, 1994)
Author: Sri Chinmoy
Average review score:

Uplifting Stories for Life
Shri Chinmoy a renowned spiritual leader, peace activist, author and musician from India, currently living in New York shares a number of stories of Indian origin with the western readers. They are stories from India's ancient past, episodes from the lives of Indian saints and some parables. All of them contain valuable moral lessons for the new generation. It is indeed a praiseworthy attempt to introduce the wisdom of the east to the west. These stories of Sri Chinmoy are interspersed with his own thought-provoking and illuminating verses and his soul-bird illustrations. It is indeed a nice book, well designed for young people.

Harmonies & Hurricanes : Color and Line in Japanese Quilts
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (11 August, 1998)
Author: Kumiko Sudo
Average review score:

Inspiring...
The small quilts in this book are inspiring because of their uniqueness. All of her designs are done using applique techniques and she uses silks for most of her quilts. Each of her quilts has a poem or story that she's written or referenced that adds to the beauty of the design. That said, this book is not for the beginning quilter since directions are somewhat vague. There is a gallery quilts, in addition to a section of patterns for small (ie 15 x 17") wallhangings. It is not at all a book for one interested in new techniques. However it would still be great addition to any quilter or fiber artists library as a reference and inspiration.

Harmonists: A Personal History (The American Utopian Adventure)
Published in Hardcover by Porcupine Pr (June, 1973)
Author: John Samuel Duss
Average review score:

A history filled with personal experiences and insights
This is a very readable history of the Harmony Society by a man who actually grew up in Economy (the third of the towns which this Utopian society built), left to get married, and returned to live and serve as the last Trustee of the Society. It is a fascinating story beginning with Father Rapp in Germany and ending with the final legal agreements with the heirs.

The Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches
Published in Paperback by Susan Bates (May, 1988)
Author: Bks Lyric
Average review score:

Wonderful book, very comprehensive.
This book is a very complete guide to knitting stitches, with good pictures and detailed instructions. Stitches are grouped by type, making it easy to find the style you are looking for. The instructions are easy to adapt to the size that you need. Some of the yarn colors used in the sample pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the patterns. Overall, a wonderful book for beginners who want to see a variety of different knitting styles, and also for experts designing their own patterns.

Harmony Ideology: Justice and Control in a Zapotec Mountain Village
Published in Paperback by Stanford Univ Pr (S) (August, 1991)
Author: Laura Nader
Average review score:

A brilliant ethnographic exposition on social control
Professor Laura Nader of U.C. Berkeley has penned an amazing work. At first glance Harmony Ideologyseems like a fairly mundane anthropological work on Zapotec Indians of Mexico and their law. The realityis quite different. Although slightly wordy, Nader's description of Zapotec dispute resolution is lively and usually interesting. She examines law cases in the spirit of Llewellyn and Hoebel's classic The Cheyenne Way, although Nader includes analyses cases that do not come to the authorities for resolution. This makes Nader's work both subtler and more accurate. Nader was the first legal anthropologist to emphasize with rigor that the users of systems of dispute resolution help shape and define it, and the study of legal systems must therefore emphasize disputes in all stages from formation to resolution (or nonresolution). In her analysis of the promotion of Christian harmony as a means of social control, Nader is nothing less than brilliant. She expertly uses through history and sociology to expose the motives and methods of Zapotec social control. And like any great work, Harmony Ideology uses facts from a narrow subject foreign to most readers' experience and applies them in such a way as to enlighten our own culture.

Harmony of Samuel, Kings and Chronicles
Published in Hardcover by Baker Book House (June, 1981)
Author: William D. Crockett
Average review score:

A Needed Tool for the Bible Scholar
This book makes the study of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles much easier, since it shows the parallel passages next to each other on the same page. The pages are conveniently divided into 2 larger columns, one for the Judah, one for Israel. This method takes much of the confusion out of trying to figure out what is going on where and when, since the "overlaps" are shown side-by-side. I think such a harmony in essential to have available to the Christian community. I myself teach Sunday School and have found it indispensible. My only objection to this particular harmony is that Mr. Crockett has seen fit to rearrange the chronology in places (rather than just going straight through Samuel and Kings, incorporating Chronicles where it overlaps). His way of doing it has made it difficult for those without harmonies to follow what it going on.
